About the study day

Some babies cry more, feed less, and keep their parents up at night - and yet don’t fit neatly into a diagnostic box or easily propose solutions. This study day with Shel Banks IBCLC will cut through the noise.

Morning: a deep dive into the latest evidence on crying, reflux, and allergy.

Afternoon: an exploration of the ethics, practical case studies and discussion - building a clear, usable framework for supporting unsettled babies in real life. Expect sharp insights, evidence you can trust, and zero fluff.

SPEAKER

Shel Banks IBCLC - Infant Feeding Specialist

Shel Banks is an experienced infant feeding professional with over 20 years’ experience supporting families whose babies have feeding or settling challenges. Based in northwest England, she combines her NHS Baby Friendly Coordinator role with running a specialist IBCLC practice, focusing on unsettled babies, faltering growth, and formula-fed infants.

Shel has contributed to three NICE guidelines, co-authored three Cochrane systematic reviews, and published Why Formula Feeding Matters (Pinter & Martin, 2022). She is also Clinical Director for the Anya app and is currently completing a PhD exploring how best to support families with unsettled babies in universal services.

I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Holistic Sleep Coach and Tongue-tie Practitioner. I am insured by Hiscox and am a member of Lactation Consultants of Great Britain, United States Lactation Consultants Association and the Royal College of Nursing. I am a founder member and former Chair of the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners (2016-2019). As well as providing private consultations for families, I offer training courses and speak at national and international conference and am the author of the book ‘Why Tongue-tie Matters’. In April 2023 I was given the annual ‘Outstanding Contribution to Breastfeeding’ Award by Lactation Consultants of Great Britain.
