About the workshop

This interactive workshop is designed for practitioners who have been dividing tongue-ties for fewer than five years. A separate advanced workshop will be offered later in the year for more experienced practitioners. As demand is high and learning needs vary depending on experience, this day focuses specifically on supporting those who are newer to tongue-tie practice.

The workshop is open to both NHS and private-practice practitioners. To ensure the day reflects the group's priorities, prior to attending you will be asked to complete a form, including a section where you can suggest topics or questions you would like to explore.

Topics we may cover:
  • Frenulum anatomy and how this can inform division technique and post procedure care
  • How do we determine a baby needs a division with a review of the assessment tools available
  • Contraindications to division and managing medically complex babies who may benefit from a procedure
  • How do we communicate risks to parents to obtain fully informed consent
  • Talking to parents about controversial issues such as aftercare and lip tie.
  • Managing complications
  • What is an ‘adequate division’?
By the end of the day, you will be better equipped to support parents and grow your practice.

I am Registered Nurse and Health Visitor and regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Holistic Sleep Coach and Tongue-tie Practitioner. I am insured by Hiscox and am a member of Lactation Consultants of Great Britain, United States Lactation Consultants Association and the Royal College of Nursing. I am a founder member and former Chair of the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners (2016-2019). As well as providing private consultations for families, I offer training courses and speak at national and international conference and am the author of the book ‘Why Tongue-tie Matters’. In April 2023 I was given the annual ‘Outstanding Contribution to Breastfeeding’ Award by Lactation Consultants of Great Britain.
